The Imo State Chapter, of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, have called on Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, to tender his resignation, over his inability to safeguard the lives of the people of the state.
In a Press Release signed, and presented at a press conference, by the State Chairman of the party, Engr. Charles C. Ugwuh, OON, the PDP stated that it had become necessary, for the party to make its stand, in the face of worsening security situation in the state, which the All Progressives Congress APC government, of Senator Hope Uzodinma, have failed to address, and safeguard the lives and property of the people of the state, as the Chief Security Officer of the state.
The PDP in Imo State frowned at the continued, and escalating militarization of Imo State, noting the mass arrest and the killing of Imo youths, the intimidation and harassment of Imo people as well as the reciprocal and retaliatory attacks, burning down of Police Stations, and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), amongst others.
The PDP sadly, that security had completely collapsed in Imo State.
The Party expressed it’s displeasure, that the daily killings of innocent civilians by security personnel, the arson, murder and carnage that had taken over what was the most peaceful State in Nigeria.
The party was particularly upset, by the murder of Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, the former aide to former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who was also a former member of the PDP.
The PDP, extended condolences to the families of those who had been killed since the violence started, including all security personnel who have been killed, the Imo State University (IMSU) student who was the first victim of security operatives killing, the Young businessman, Noel Chigbu, the Imolite that was returning to his base in Germany Mr Oguchi Unachukwu, Mr. Kenneth Amukamara, the PDP Youth Leader in Oru East LGA and all others who have died since the violence started.
The party regretted,. that the current national security crisis had exposed the incompetence of the APC Government, protect the citizenry of the country.
The party further regretted that it the Insecurity had entered Imo State, following Hope Uzodinma’s invitation of the military into the State.
The party insisted, that heightened insecurity was because of provocative policy decisions that have sustained the injustices and marginalization of Ndigbo.
The party insisted that it gave impetus to the avoidable emergence of such self-determination groups as the IPOB, MASSOB and an army of enraged youths.
The party stated, that the imposition of Senator Hope Uzodinma, by the Supreme Court, as Imo govenror, must have contributed to the current insecurity in the State.
The party further frowned at areas Uzodinma had failed the people, including his failure to pay workers and pensioners, his attitude of blaming others but himself, his peddling of falsehood, propaganda and blackmail, the high rate of youth unemployment, the intractable internal crisis in Imo APC.
The PDP pointed out that the APC had been embroiled in internal crisis, since Uzodinma took over, which led to the invitation of the military into Imo State by the Uzodinma Government.
The PDP stated that it had severally called on Uzodinma, to convokes a genuine stakeholders’ summit on safety and security in the State.
The party regretted that Uzodinma had rejected the good advice and suggestions, but rather stubbornly elects to persevere in the baseless blame game against the opposition, preferring stage-managed, unnecessary, deceptive solidarity visits from his stooges procured from willing LGAs, while Imo burns.
The Imo State PDP having analysed the current situation in the state, reached several decisions, which includes;
a. That Uzodinma should take full responsibility for the huge loss of lives in the conflict which he created, by his invitation of the military the state.
b. That Uzodinma should account for the lives of the security agents and other Imolites that have been lost in the conflict. He was also to withdraw his soldiers from the State. The party demanded to know from Uzodinma what he knows about the murder of the PDP youth leader in his LGA.
c. That the FG should, set up an independent investigation murder of Alhaji Ahmed Gulak in Imo State, and bring the culprits to justice.
d. That the PDP call on stakeholders, to find lasting solutions to the bizarre massacre in Imo, since it has been proven that Uzodinma is incapable and/or unwilling to protect lives and property in the State.
The PDP insisted that in sane climes, Uzodinma should have tendered his resignation, for failing Imo people.
